A Bath and a Picture of Back Surgery Healing

100_8005 Saturday evening mommy got to give Mason his first bath of sorts.  No tub, but a bunch of soap, washcloths, and bowl of water.  His hair is all clean now 100_8008 instead of a bit funky from the ultrasound gel and for a brief period of time he had no wires attached to him.  He didn’t seem to mind the bath at all.

It is Sunday and here’s the current update.

Mason had a peaceful night with his nurse and drank a bottle like a champ.  Even better, he’s having no trouble switching to breastfeeding during the day when Mommy is with him.

The neurosurgeon stopped in today and Mason’s soft spot on his head is still soft.  They’ll measure the fluid in his ventricles with a head ultrasound tonight or tomorrow and decide if a shunt needs to be considered yet to drain fluid from his brain.

The dressing was changed on his back so we got a picture of how he’s healing to share.  This is 3.5 days after surgery. 000_0002 Plastic surgery was in and say he’s healing great from their perspective as well.

The other test scheduled for tonight or Monday is a renal ultrasound to get a look in his kidneys and check for urine reflux.  The tests are scheduled for tomorrow, but ultrasound was called in to look at another baby so they may go ahead and do Mason’s tests sometime tonight while they are here.  We’ll just have to see.

Here is one more of Mason awake and chipper today: 100_8009 I love the fluffy red hair and wide open eyes.  He’s pretty happy if he’s being held.

  9. Wow Mason looked great! My son's scar was much larger than that and involved some seriously creative closure.
